Hey guys, attempting for the 3rd time to fix the oil leak from my oil separator box, I came up with an idea to actually collect oil since we don't have baffles. To create suction like the T.O.O. setup I figured that we could do this...
1. Run the hoses to the Jaz can like they are now. A hose from where the PCV used to be and a hose from the valve cover. Or, in the case of Zip's setup, a hose from the oil cap and the valve cover to a "T" and then to the Jaz.
2. Remove the filter on top of the Jaz and run a hose from there to the gooseneck like before to create suction. BUT, to stop oil from going into the intake utilize a clear Fram filter inline between the catchcan and the gooseneck.
In a sense, the Jaz would just be used as a "hose junction". It really wouldn't be catching anything...the inline Fram would be though. You guys kinda understand what I'm trying to say/do? Is there anything bad with sucking on the valve cover with this setup I had in mind? The actual idea for this setup came from 96IntegraRS (no catchcan) who has a Fram filter between his PCV and gooseneck.

Well, I went ahead and tried this setup. Before doing it I drained the catchcan to see if I would collect any oil with the new mod; of course, nothing drained out. Anyway, I set it up like I mentioned and I start the car up to see how it reacts. Immediately, oil starts collecting inside the inline, clear fuel filter. However, the car idled high (1200 rpm) and after a minute or so there was a weird whine coming from somewhere. I test drove it on the 20 mile trip to my fiance's house to see how it would work. When decelerating, the car would want to die below 1200 rpm. When I popped the hood, there was a terrible burning smell coming from somewhere. I never did find anything burnt or melted. The filter had a good coating of oil in it and so did the hoses AFTER the filter, DAMN! Before I even did the mod I kinda figured that would happen though. If it's a fuel filter, I'm sure oil would have been able to sneak through...which it did. I go to drain the catcan and half a dixie cup full of OIL came out. I must be getting some serious blowby if that much oil came out from only 20 miles of driving. I don't even want to imagine how much oil snuck through the filter into the intake...hopefully only vapor. As for the high idle, I'm thinking that it could be attributed to the engine sucking on blowby gasses. Just like when you have a vacuum leak you spray starting fluid or something combustible at the source of the leak and the engine revs. The whining noise I heard was most likely a vacuum leak. One or two of the hoses weren't super snug. Back to the drawing board. If you guys have any ideas or suggestions please throw them at me.

Just stick to the open atmosphere setup waveoff. The vacuum is causing the engine to idle erratically because you didn't put a PCV valve to regulate the amount of vapor that enters the intake manifold. The PCV opens a 0 vacuum, since you have no PCV valve the vapor gasses are entering the intake charge at vacuum and the ECU can't compensate for the dirty blowby vapors. Your current setup may also cause you to blow the rings because excessive oil may enter one cylinder and cause a hydrolocking effect, except it would be caused by oil rather than water. The open atmosphere setup gets little oil in the catch can because the blowby vapor is sill too hot to condense into the can. Instead the hot vapor goes out through the K&N filter. If you want to see oil in the catchcan try covering half of the K&S filter w/ masking tape. This will cause more of the vapor to condense into the catchcan. I've also tried not using the catchcan and have the hoses routed to down below near the shift linkage. This method worked and the smell from the engine bay is obsolete now.

Interesting...I'll give that a try. After that 20 mile drive I decided to just go back to normal. BTW, I took some new pictures of my engine bay. Hopefully they'll come out this time. Have you given the oil cap mod a try again? So far so good with the rubber PCV grommet in the oil cap.

Sounds like me...i get about 1/4 of a cap of the reg. paint bottle on 140 miles trip this week (reg. driving..no redline).
I use the Moroso can though..I think that baffle is doing a really good job. But I'm tired of draining them out after every 3 or 4 days...I'm thinking just open the damn bottom of the can a little bit and let the oil drips out
